What I’m Reading This Fall

If you ask me, every season is the season for reading, but Fall has something a little extra. You can read outside with a blanket and a hot cup of something. You can cozy up inside in the evening next to the glow of a lamp. It’s the season of thrillers and cozy mysteries and breezy romances. It’s the season when football plays all day and you can happily read while your husband happily watches.

I was home all summer with my three boys so very pregnant and was pretty off and on with reading. And then Maddie entered the scene, and my reading has fallen by the wayside even more. Such is motherhood! BUT I’m starting to feel like I’m getting back in the groove of reading. I’m getting in a couple chapters every night and throughout the day when I can snatch a few minutes. My season of reading is now!

A few weeks ago, I asked for suggestions for great books lately. Something that I like to do every now and then when I feel like I’ve gotten out of the habit of keeping up with current publishing. I always hear about books that I know I’ll love and I immediately went through the list and placed a bunch of library holds. Picked up a huge stack the other day, and wanted to share my list just in case you’re on the lookout for some new reads that other people have enjoyed.

The list:

1// Sandwich, by Catherine Newman – this is absolutely a summer book, but I’m calling it my end of summer book. I’m currently reading it and it’s giving me all the feels about motherhood and time and how quickly it all goes. *sobs softly*

2// Enchanted To Meet You, by Meg Cabot – The only book I picked up on a whim. I was obsessed with Meg Cabot books for all of my teen years. Who doesn’t love a throwback? I haven’t read one of her books in years and haven’t even read the inside, but I believe that it’s about witches. Very Fallish.

3// Same As It Ever Was, by Claire Lombardo – Her last book (the Most Fun We Ever Had) got so much hype and I missed it! Couldn’t let this one go by when I saw it suggested!

4// She’s Not Sorry, by Mary Kubica – Needed a good thriller on the list. I read Local Woman Missing by her a few years ago and I’ll never forget it. It was a good one. Hoping this one won’t disappoint!

5// The Frozen River, by Ariel Lawhon – This one comes highly highly recommended. Everyone who has read it has raved. Several people said that it was their favorite book of the year so far. And how perfect to get our moods ready for some cooler weather?

6// Nettle & Bone, by T. Kingfisher – This one came out in 2022 and I missed it then but heard good things. It’s a fantasy book and I love a fantasy in the fall.

7// We All Want Impossible Things, by Catherine Newman – I didn’t make the connection that this is the same author as Sandwich until I picked it up, so I must be missing something by not reading these yet! I also have been told that this book will make you weep.

8// All the Colors of the Dark, by Chris Whitaker – Alright, so I actually started reading it, and had to put it down. It’s quite long, and my brain is not at 100% as the mother of a newborn and 3 small boys.

And just a few more on my list that haven’t come in yet.

The God of the Woods, by Liz Moore

Slow Dance, by Rainbow Rowell

The Cliffs, by J. Courtney Sullivan

What’s on your list to read this season? And what else have you read lately that I need to put on my list? I’d love to hear!
